Zoo Labs Announces Mad Satta And Wages As September 2014 Music Residents
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Zoo Labs is excited to announce its September 2014 Zoo Labs Music Residency (ZLMR), an innovative 2-week program that immerses creative teams in a state-of-the-art recording studio and workshop environment. Selected through a competitive application process, New York-based Mad Satta and Los Angeles' Wages will live at Zoo Labs from September 7-18, record new musical work, and participate in a kinetic and visual design-thinking curriculum in order to build their own unique business models.

This residency is the second co-residency hosted at Zoo Labs; two unique teams participate at the same time to encourage experimentation, cross-pollination, and shared experiences. After settling into their bunk beds at Zoo Labs and meeting their peers, teams are introduced to the design-thinking world with a rapid prototyping exercise. Each day of the residency kicks off with visits from guest mentors leading workshops on topics such as business model generation, understanding fans, money as a tool, managing team dynamics, and futures thinking. From early afternoon until midnight, residents have full access to Zoo Labs' state-of-the-art recording studios to create new work. All meals are prepared by Zoo Labs' in-house chef. Past and current Zoo Labs guest mentors include Raffi Minasian, Linda Yaven, Johnny Hwin, Steve Diller, Marina Gorbis, and Brandt Williams, and guest engineers have included Brad Dollar and Damien Lewis. Community dinners with music and technology leaders and excursions into Oakland round out residents' days.

At the end of their two weeks, each team will share their musical creations and their newly developed strategic goals to a panel of mentors. At 8 pm on Thursday, September 18, the doors of Zoo Labs will open to the public for a celebration and live performance by the residents. Admission is free, but an RSVP via Eventbrite is required for entry.

In November, Zoo Labs will host a 10-day residency featuring a resident selected by regular application, plus a second resident team selected in partnership with Bandpage (more information available online).

Update on Past ZLMRs
Oakland's Bells Atlas is performing at the Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco on August 29, 2014, and just announced an appearance at Union Square in San Francisco at 12:30 pm on September 17. ElectroSpit, also hailing from Oakland, is working on their prototype mobile talkbox device.
