PHILADELPHIA (Beanie Sigel Fans Website) - Beanie Sigel is getting a year in prison on federal drug and weapons charges. He had been expected to get about three years at today's sentencing in federal court in Philadelphia.

Sigel, whose real name is Dwight Grant, responded to the judge's leniency by thanking him for "giving me the second chance, the chance to turn my life around. I know now the situation I was in was a reckless and dangerous situation." He originally faced a sentence of 37 months in prison under federal sentencing guidelines on his guilty plea to charges he faced.

The rapper will report to federal prison in 30 days and be credited time served before he was released on bail and good behavior while locked up. These variables could see Sigel freed next July.

But this doesn't end the legal troubles for the rapper known for grimy depictions of thug life. He still faces a January retrial on an attempted murder charge, when he allegedly shot a man after an arguement about a women took place outside the Pony Tail Bar in Philadelphia.
In January 2005, Sigel will be in court for a re-trial.
