Los Angeles, CA (Top40 Charts/ Webster & Associates) Dave Mustaine, singer and lead guitarist of the legendary rock band MEGADETH, has recorded his version of the
National Anthem for the upcoming movie AMERICA, in theaters across the U.S. on July 2nd before the Independence Day weekend. Cited in the book The 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists as the genre's #1 greatest player of all time, Mustaine was able to watch a cut of the film before heading into the recording studio to record the song which will be prominently featured in the film.
"Jimi Hendrix recorded his version at a different time in the history of our nation," noted Mustaine. "Robert Kennedy and
Martin Luther King had been assassinated, the nation was mired in war and chaos and that is reflected in his guitar. First off, no version of our
National Anthem is or will ever be better than the original. My inspiration and take on the song for the film was our Founding Fathers and wondering what they would think of us today if they saw what we had become. My hope for
America is that we'll become a nation they'd be proud of again and I tried to capture that with my guitar."
Produced by Academy-award winning producer Gerald R. Molen (Schindler's List, Jurassic Park) and written by best-selling author Dinesh D'Souza, AMERICA explores the United States' role in the world and its contributions to mankind and features dramatic recreations of key moments in American history including the hypothetical killing of General
George Washington in battle by British forces in order to dramatize the idea of a world without America.
"Although I can't say I'm a fan of heavy metal, I am a fan of greatness in every genre and I am delighted that a great musician like Dave Mustaine gave us such a beautiful rendition of a song that belongs to all of us," noted producer Gerald Molen. "He's a patriot who loves his country as much as he loves music and we were delighted to work with him."
