New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Green Light Go) After a 13 year hiatus The
Verve Pipe return with the independent release of their long-awaited rock album Overboard on June 17. The platinum band, based out of Grand Rapids, have been composing hits such as "
Photograph", "
Colorful", "
Never Let You Down" and the #1 single "
The Freshmen" since the early '90s. Known for their strong melodies, compelling lyrics and emotionally charged performances, Overboard brings a renewed energy and focus to this self-produced album that resulted in the band's most inspired writing and recording to date, and serves as a reminder that The
Verve Pipe remain one of the genres most preeminent alternative bands.
"...the band agilely whip up grandiose mood pieces, frothy pop anthems, and sturdy rockers. (The
Verve Pipe) leap beyond commonplace commerciality." - Entertainment Weekly
With contributions from each member, the ten new rock songs are the result of a true collaboration within the band. The album's first single, "Crash Landing", hits with soulful lyrics and seductive vocals set to music and a chorus whose pop/rock brilliance is reminiscent of their formative years. The haunting title track, "Overboard" (co-written with Jeff Daniels) is a compelling and dark tale of love and loss delivered with an alluring chorus that is truly unforgettable. The lyrics to "Hit and Run"are a dire warning of the consequences of escape set against a rhythm and funkiness that is both dynamic and explosive. The remaining songs on this long-awaited album, each unique and memorable, will resonate and live up to the expectations of their many fans and will undoubtedly make many new ones.

About
The
Verve Pipe got their start when the principal members of two rival Michigan bands joined forces. After releasing two independent albums, I've Suffered A Head Injury and Pop Smear, the group quickly garnered a regional following for their textured rock songs distinguished by innovative arrangements, soul-searching lyrics and layered vocals. After attracting the attention of RCA Records, the band went on to sell over a million albums worldwide and continue to enjoy success on radio, TV and Film. A promotional tour will follow later in the year.
Praise for The
Verve Pipe
- "They sound more natural than they ever have on record, and Brian Vander Ark and Donny Brown respond by their best set of songs." - Stephen
Thomas Erlewine - All
Music Guide
- "The melodic, well played, mostly uptempo pop rock has far more depth and range than most of what we've recently heard from the bands that came out of the now seemingly distant middle 90's." - MTV Online
- "The
Verve Pipe is a blueprint for what can be achieved when a band 'pay's one's dues' long enough to reap the rewards of longevity, with songs so well-crafted and emotionally redolent that they rise to the top and float on the sea of mediocrity drowning the airwaves of most radio stations."
