New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ 1888 Media PR) The Howling Tongues are an incendiary 5-piece rock-n-roll outfit dead set on resuscitating rock n' roll by going back to its roots and playing honest passionate music, on real instruments, with every ounce of their blood, sweat and tears. The genesis of the band happened during the summer of 2011, when guitarist Nick Magliochetti, lead vocalist Taylor Harlow, and drummer Tylor
James decided to start a band that would venture to be a leading light of their generation. Bassist, Zach Smith and keyboardist,
Thomas Wainwright soon joined up to help craft a style of rock and roll that would make the legends proud.
With a growing reputation for an undeniable live show, the band entered the studio at the tail-end of 2011 to record six songs with one of the industry's top producer/engineers, Tom Tapley, who has worked with Bruce Springsteen,
Pearl Jam, Tom Morello.
Velvet Revolver and Mastodon. The ensuing six-song EP, "Keep The Dust Down," earned rave reviews comparing The Tongues to Led Zeppelin, The
Black Keys,
Kings of Leon,
Jack White and The Who.
The foundation of a sound dubbed "no regret rock-n-roll" had been cemented.
After a year of live shows and a rapidly growing fan base, The Howling Tongues found themselves in the hands of producers Stan Lynch (former drummer for
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) and Billy Chapin (Sister Hazel, Edwin McCain). "We instantly knew that something great would come from working with Stan and Billy. However, none of us expected to be this blown away by the end result", said guitarist Nick Magliochetti. The band decided to partner with them for the recording of their first full-length album.
In 2013, the band headed to Nashville's Sound Emporium studio. "We didn't know what to expect being in a new environment, working with Stan and Billy, and recording it all to tape without any computers. But looking back, I can't imagine doing it any other way", recalls frontman Taylor Harlow.
The end result is an album that flaunts the band's true colors and sends jolts of life back into rock-n-roll. From the impassioned vocals to the avalanche of riffage that segues into extended jams to the wall of sound that permeates choruses to the way the instruments ring out in the mix, everything about their sound is Howling. Tracks like "Gotta Be A Man," "
Let Me Be" and "
The Sound" flex Southern Rock muscles, "
I'm In Love" raises its anthemic fists, and "
Fade Away" bursts into a full-throttle freight train boogie. Elsewhere, deft heft infiltrates "
Chainsaw" and "Another
Heart To Bleed" as they stroll exiled main streets, tagged with physical graffiti. Dynamic counterpoints ensue as "Strange Way To Say Goodbye" and "What's It Gonna Take" bask in moody gutsiness before "
Too Many Times" adds a perfect coda to an epic ride with its blend of blues, soul and old-timey Americana.
In fact, it's the sentiment of the song TMT that represents the true power of THT. As Harlow sings, "I've been bitten too many times," one realizes that The Howling Tongues are an indoctrination set to cure the nation, providing a spiritual quest that Performer Magazine summed up best, "If you're looking for a band to restore your faith in rock n roll, you've found it."
