Biography

Cammy Barnes, born Cameron Barnes in Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland, was raised in the town of Methil. He attended Denbeath Primary and Kirkland High School. From a young age, Barnes was immersed in music, learning to play the piano, guitar, and traditional Scottish bagpipes. His early musical influences included The Beatles and Rod Stewart, which were frequently played in his household. Initially gaining recognition as a bagpiper, he performed with the internationally acclaimed group, the Red Hot Chilli Pipers, before transitioning to a solo music career.

Barnes has an extensive background in theatre. In 2010, he made his theatrical debut in the National Theatre of Scotland's production of Black Watch. He later appeared in The James Plays trilogy at London's National Theatre. His acting pursuits have been complemented by his musical talents, often integrating both disciplines in his performances.

Transitioning from theatre to music, Barnes began releasing solo material in 2018 under his birth name. His early singles included "Destiny" and "Getaway." In 2019, adopting the stage name Cammy Barnes, he released tracks such as "Chasing Love," "Just Smile," and "When I'm Home." His 2020 EP, Almost Fabulous, featured original songs and a cover of "Fairytale of New York" with the Red Hot Chilli Pipers.

Barnes's music blends elements of folk, pop, and country, often reflecting his Scottish heritage. His single dedicated to his daughter, Bonnie, achieved significant success, reaching number one on the iTunes Singer/Songwriter chart and garnering widespread attention online. This success led to sold-out performances across the UK and Europe.

In 2023, Barnes auditioned for Britain's Got Talent at the age of 32. His initial performance of Olivia Rodrigo's "Driver's License" was critiqued for its pace, prompting a second rendition that received praise for its authenticity and emotional depth. Advancing to the semi-finals, he performed Dougie MacLean's "Caledonia," earning commendations from all four judges. Although he did not progress to the finals, his participation significantly raised his profile.

Barnes continues to develop his music career, splitting his time between Fife and Nashville to collaborate with country musicians and refine his sound. His recent release, "Road Ahead," offers a glimpse into his evolving musical direction. He has supported artists like Tom Walker and performed at notable venues, including King Tut's in Glasgow.

Known affectionately as "Fife's singing barber," Barnes balances his music career with his role as a father. His daughter, Bonnie, serves as a significant inspiration for his work, influencing both his songwriting and performances.
